Lash Extensions, Brows and Cosmetic Tattoo in a Perth Summer: How to Protect Your Results Through Heat, Sun, Sweat and Swimming

There’s a specific little moment we’ve come to recognise at Posh Deluxe every November.

A regular client sits down for her infill, pulls out her phone to show us her holiday booking — Rottnest, Bali, a week in Margaret River — and says something like “I’m going to be in the water every day. Are my lashes going to survive? And what about my brows?”

Perth summers are hard on beauty treatments. Long stretches of 35-plus degree days, strong UV, chlorine pools, salt water, sunscreen, sweat and air conditioning all take a toll. The good news is that with a few simple habits, your lash extensions, lash lift, brow lamination and cosmetic tattoo can all look great from December to February.

This is our practical guide to keeping your results looking their best through a Perth summer.

Lash Extensions in Summer

Lash extensions and Perth summers can absolutely coexist. Most retention problems in summer come from three things: oil, heat and rubbing.

Swimming (pool and ocean)

You can swim with lash extensions once the adhesive has fully cured, which takes 24 to 48 hours after your appointment.

  • Rinse after swimming. Chlorine and salt dry out the bond over time. A lash shampoo and gentle rinse with fresh water afterwards helps.
  • Don’t rub your eyes with a towel. Pat your face dry and let your lashes air dry, or use a cool hairdryer setting from a distance.
  • Goggles are fine as long as they don’t press on your lashes. Look for a pair with deeper eye cups.
  • Avoid diving into waves face-first where you can. The force of the water is surprisingly rough on extensions.

Sunscreen

This is the big one. Many sunscreens are oil-based, and oil dissolves lash adhesive.

  • Use an oil-free facial sunscreen (look for “oil-free” or “non-comedogenic” on the label).
  • Apply it everywhere except right along the lash line.
  • A mineral sunscreen stick is easier to control around the eyes than a runny lotion.
  • Sunglasses protect both your eyes and your lashes. Wear them.

Heat and sweat

  • Sweat on its own isn’t a problem, but wiping sweat away with your hands or a towel is. Blot gently instead.
  • Hot yoga, saunas and steam rooms soften adhesive. Save them for after your first 48 hours, and keep sessions short.
  • Don’t lean over a hot barbecue or open oven with your face close to the heat.

Air conditioning and dry eyes

Long hours in air conditioning can make eyes feel dry and itchy, which leads to rubbing. Preservative-free lubricating eye drops help, and are safe to use with extensions.

Timing your infills around holidays

  • Book an infill 3 to 5 days before you fly out so your set is full but fully settled.
  • For trips longer than three weeks, consider whether a lash lift would be easier to maintain (see below).
  • Book your post-holiday infill before you leave. January fills quickly.

Keratin Lash Lift in Summer

A lash lift is one of the most summer-friendly treatments we offer. There’s no adhesive, so water, sunscreen and sweat don’t affect retention the way they do with extensions.

  • Keep lashes dry for 24 to 48 hours after your lift, then swim as much as you like.
  • Use a nourishing lash serum at night. Sun, salt and chlorine can dry lashes out.
  • A lift lasts 6 to 8 weeks, so one appointment in early December can carry you through Christmas and New Year.

Brow Lamination and Tint in Summer

Brow lamination holds up well in summer, but the tint is more vulnerable.

  • Keep brows dry for 24 hours after lamination.
  • Chlorine, salt water and sun fade brow tint faster. Expect tint to last closer to 2 to 3 weeks than 4 in peak summer.
  • Brush brows into place each morning with a clean spoolie. Humidity can make laminated brows look fluffier than usual.
  • Condition them. A drop of brow serum at night stops lamination and sun from drying the hairs out.
  • Avoid sunscreen with strong exfoliating ingredients (like AHAs) directly on the brows.

Cosmetic Tattoo in Summer

Cosmetic tattoo (ombre brows, nano brows, lip blush and eyeliner tattoo) needs the most care in summer, especially if it’s newly done.

If your PMU is healing

Fresh cosmetic tattoo needs about 7 to 10 days for the surface to heal and 4 to 6 weeks to fully settle.

  • No swimming (pool, ocean, spa) for at least 10 to 14 days.
  • No direct sun on the area during healing. A wide-brimmed hat is your friend.
  • No sweaty workouts for the first 7 to 10 days.
  • No sunscreen on the fresh tattoo itself until the skin has closed. Protect it with shade instead.

Planning tip: If you have a beach holiday coming up, book new PMU at least 4 to 6 weeks before you leave, or wait until you’re back. See our Christmas beauty booking timeline for exact dates.

If your PMU is healed

UV is the number one reason cosmetic tattoo fades early.

  • Apply SPF 50+ over healed brows and eyeliner every day. A sunscreen stick is easiest.
  • Use an SPF lip balm over lip blush.
  • Reapply after swimming.
  • If your brows or lips look lighter by the end of summer, that’s normal. Book a colour refresh in autumn.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I swim with lash extensions?

Yes, once the adhesive has cured (24 to 48 hours after application). Rinse with fresh water afterwards and pat your face dry rather than rubbing.

Does sunscreen ruin lash extensions?

Oil-based sunscreen can weaken the adhesive. Use an oil-free sunscreen on your face and keep it off the lash line.

Is a lash lift better than extensions for summer?

For clients who swim or sweat a lot, often yes. A lash lift has no adhesive, so water and sunscreen don’t affect it.

How long after cosmetic tattoo can I swim?

Wait at least 10 to 14 days, until the surface has fully healed. Your artist will confirm based on how you’re healing.

Does the sun fade cosmetic tattoo?

Yes. UV is the main cause of early fading. Daily SPF over healed brows, eyeliner and lips makes a real difference.

When should I book treatments before a summer holiday?

Book lash extension infills 3 to 5 days before you fly, lash lifts up to a week before, and new cosmetic tattoo at least 4 to 6 weeks before.
