Lash & Brow Treatments While Pregnant: What’s Safe?

Pregnancy can leave you feeling tired, puffy and short on time, so it’s no surprise that many expectant mums want low-maintenance lashes and brows. It’s also one of the questions we’re asked most at booking: is it safe to have lash and brow treatments while pregnant?
The answer depends on the treatment. Some are generally fine throughout pregnancy, some need extra care, and cosmetic tattoo is something we don’t do until after your pregnancy. Here’s a clear guide to each one.
Please note: this is general guidance from our salon, not medical advice. Every pregnancy is different. If you have any complications, or you’re unsure, check with your GP, midwife or obstetrician before booking.
The quick guide

Eyelash extensions
Eyelash extensions are generally considered safe throughout pregnancy. The extensions are applied to your natural lashes, not your skin.
A few things are worth knowing:
- Tell us you’re pregnant when you book, so we can plan your appointment.
- Comfort matters. A full set takes around 2 to 3.5 hours lying on your back, which can become uncomfortable later in pregnancy, particularly after about 20 weeks. We can add pillows, recline you slightly and pause for breaks.
- Your eyes may be more sensitive. Pregnancy can make skin and eyes more reactive, so let us know if you’ve noticed any sensitivity. We can offer a patch test.
- Retention can change. Hormonal changes can affect your natural lash cycle, so your extensions may shed a little faster or slower than usual.

Keratin lash lift
There’s no strong evidence that lash lift products are harmful during pregnancy. However, hormonal changes can make your skin and eyes more sensitive, and the curl may take differently or not last as long as usual.
If you’d like a lash lift during pregnancy, particularly in the first trimester or if you have any pregnancy complications, we recommend discussing it with your GP, midwife or obstetrician before booking. A lift and tint takes about 45 to 60 minutes, so it’s a shorter appointment than a full set of extensions.

Brow lamination
Brow lamination is generally considered low risk during pregnancy, but it isn’t entirely risk-free. Hormonal changes can make your skin more sensitive, and some clients find the smell of the solutions harder to tolerate, especially if they’re experiencing nausea.
If you’re pregnant:
- Always tell your brow artist before your treatment.
- A patch test is strongly advised, even if you’ve had lamination before.
- Some clients prefer to wait until after pregnancy for extra peace of mind, and that’s completely fine.
We take a conservative, safety-first approach and are happy to suggest alternatives, such as brow sculpting. Read more in Is Brow Lamination Safe? What You Need to Know Before Booking.
Brow sculpting
Brow sculpting (shaping your brows with waxing, tweezing and trimming) is safe during pregnancy. If your skin is more sensitive than usual, let us know and we’ll take extra care. It’s a great way to keep your brows tidy while you wait to have lamination or cosmetic tattoo. See Brow Sculpting in Perth.
Cosmetic tattoo: we wait until after pregnancy
We don’t perform any cosmetic tattoo, including ombre brows, nano brows, combination brows, lip blush, eyeliner tattoo and touch-ups, during pregnancy. We also don’t perform cosmetic tattoo while you’re breastfeeding. The numbing creams, the small amount of skin disruption and the slight risk of infection mean it isn’t worth the risk during this time. Hormonal changes can also affect how pigment heals and holds.
Many clients book a consultation during pregnancy to plan their design, then have their treatment once they’re ready. Find out how to prepare in our cosmetic tattoo pre-care guide.
Lash serums during pregnancy
If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, avoid prostaglandin-based lash growth serums. Many “growth” serums contain them. Gentle conditioning products are a safer choice. We explain what to look for in Lash Growth Serums: Do They Actually Work?
Tips for a comfortable appointment while pregnant
- Book a time that suits your energy and doesn’t clash with appointments or naps.
- Eat beforehand and bring a water bottle.
- Tell us how you’re feeling on the day. If you’re nauseous or unwell, it’s fine to reschedule.
- Let us know about anything new, such as sensitive eyes, skin changes or medications.
- Ask for a break whenever you need one.
Treat yourself to a pregnancy massage
Our in-salon specialist also offers pregnancy massage: gentle remedial massage designed to ease back and hip discomfort and help you relax. It’s a lovely way to combine your lash or brow appointment with some time for yourself. Find out more about massage therapy.
