1. Cheap or expired adhesive.

This is the number one reason we see at Posh Deluxe when a new client comes in frustrated with their previous salon. Lash adhesive has a very short shelf life once opened — usually 4 to 6 weeks. Discount salons often stretch adhesive well past that window, and the difference in retention is dramatic. Fresh, professional-grade adhesive—like the premium Korean-formulated adhesive used at Posh Deluxe—  bonds within 1 to 2 seconds and holds for the full natural lash growth cycle. Old adhesive takes longer to cure, forms weak bonds, and can even irritate sensitive eyes.

2. Poor isolation during application.

Every single natural lash needs to be isolated — separated from every other lash — before an extension is applied. When lash artists skip proper isolation to save time (common in high-volume salons offering rock-bottom prices), extensions get “stuck together” across multiple natural lashes. As your natural lashes grow at different rates, they pull each other loose and the whole cluster falls out early.

3. Poor lash application technique. 

Even with premium adhesive and proper isolation, poor application technique can dramatically reduce retention. Every extension needs to be attached with the correct amount of adhesive, at the correct angle, and with enough surface contact along the natural lash. If the extensions applied to your natural lashes are too long, too thick, or too heavy for your natural lashes to support, they’ll fall off within days. Every natural lash grows, matures, and sheds on its own schedule — usually a 60 to 90 day cycle. This means you *should* be losing 2 to 5 lash extensions per day as your natural lashes shed. That’s normal, healthy, and unavoidable. If you’re losing 5 to 10 per day for the first week after your appointment, something else on this list is at play. How Long Should Lash Extensions Actually Last?
