Lash Lift and Tint in Perth: What It’s Actually Like (And Why So Many Clients Fall Asleep During It)

There’s a very specific expression we’ve come to recognise at Posh Deluxe.

It’s the moment a first-time lash lift and tint client sits up in our treatment chair, looks in the mirror, and whispers “oh my god” — followed immediately by “wait, are those really mine?”

Yes. Those are all yours. That’s what a properly done lash lift and tint does — it takes the natural lashes you’ve always had, gently curls them upward from the base, and adds a soft tint that makes them look darker, thicker, and beautifully framed. No extensions. No adhesive. No maintenance. Just your own lashes, showcased the way they were always meant to be seen.

Here’s what one of our recent lash lift and tint clients said the day after her appointment:

Ella’s review captures the two things we hear from almost every new lash lift and tint client: “I can’t believe the difference” and “I almost fell asleep.” In this post, we’ll walk you through exactly what a lash lift and tint is, what happens step-by-step during the appointment, why so many clients drift off during it, and whether it’s the right choice for your natural lashes.

What a Lash Lift and Tint Actually Is

A lash lift is a semi-permanent treatment that gently curls your natural lashes upward from the base and holds them in that lifted position for 6 to 8 weeks. Think of it as a perm for your lashes — but softer, gentler, and much more flattering than the word “perm” suggests.

A lash tint is a professional-grade colour applied to each lash, darkening them from root to tip. Most clients choose black or brown depending on their natural colouring — the effect is often described as “mascara you never have to reapply.”

When done together (which is the most popular combination in Perth), the two treatments transform your natural lashes in one 45–60 minute appointment. The results are immediate. You walk in with lashes that point straight ahead — or worse, downward — and walk out with beautifully curled, darkened, defined lashes that make your eyes look brighter, wider, and more awake.

Unlike lash extensions, a lift uses your own lashes only. No adhesive, no additional fibres, no daily maintenance beyond gently brushing them into shape each morning.

What Actually Happens During Your Appointment

If you’ve never had a lash lift and tint before, the appointment itself can feel a little mysterious. Here’s exactly what happens at Posh Deluxe, step by step, so you know what to expect from the moment you sit down.

Step 1: The consultation (5–10 minutes)

We start by talking through your natural lash length, your aesthetic goals, and whether you want a subtle lift, a medium curl, or a bolder look. We’ll also discuss tint colour — most clients choose black for maximum definition or brown for a softer, more natural finish. If you have sensitive eyes or have reacted to lash products before, we’ll walk you through our sensitive-formulation options and offer a free patch test.

Step 2: The cleanse

Your lashes are thoroughly cleansed to remove any oils, makeup residue, or product buildup. This is a really important step — even trace oil at the base of your lashes can affect how well the lifting solution takes hold, so we take our time here.

Step 3: Under-eye protection

Sterile gel pads are placed under your eyes. These do two things: they protect your lower lashes from the lifting solution, and — surprisingly — they feel deliciously cool and calming. Many clients tell us this is when they start to relax.

Step 4: The silicone shield

A small silicone shield is gently placed on your upper eyelid. Different shield sizes create different curl shapes, and this is where the customisation happens. Smaller shields create a dramatic curl; larger shields create a softer, more natural lift. Your artist will have already discussed this with you at consultation and chosen the perfect size for your natural lash length.

Your lashes are then combed carefully and positioned against the shield with a fine brush.

Step 5: The lifting solution (8–12 minutes)

The first solution is applied to your lashes and left to work. This is where the internal bonds of your lashes are gently softened so they can be reshaped into their new curl. This step feels like nothing — you’ll just be lying comfortably with your eyes closed while it does its work.

Step 6: The setting solution (8–12 minutes)

The second solution locks the new curl into place. Same relaxing wait — you’re just resting.

Step 7: The keratin treatment (5–8 minutes)

At Posh Deluxe, we include a keratin conditioning step in every lash lift. Keratin is the natural protein that lashes are made of, and this treatment infuses each lash with additional protein to add shine, strength, and better long-term retention. It’s one of the reasons our lifts are designed to hold beautifully for up to 6–8 weeks with proper aftercare.

Step 8: The tint (10 minutes)

Your chosen tint colour is applied to each lash and left to develop. Once it’s done, we remove the excess and reveal the finished result.

Step 9: The reveal

The gel pads come off, everything is gently cleansed, and you sit up to look in the mirror.

This is the moment we live for as lash artists — because almost every client has the same reaction Ella did. “Wow, that’s a difference.”

Why So Many Clients Fall Asleep During It

Ella isn’t unusual in admitting she almost fell asleep. If we tracked it, we’d probably find that Around 40–50% of our lash lift and tint clients drift off during the appointment.

Here’s why.

Your eyes are closed for 45 minutes. For most Perth women, that’s the first uninterrupted quiet time you’ve had all week. No screens, no phone, no conversation demands. Just closed eyes and stillness.

The physical sensations are calming. Cool gel pads under your eyes, warm silicone shields on your lids, gentle brush strokes across your lashes. These are all inputs your nervous system reads as “safe, calm, comfortable.”

The environment is designed for relaxation. At Posh Deluxe we take genuine care with lighting, temperature, ambient music, and treatment bed comfort. Our space is deliberately quiet — no phones ringing, no walk-in chaos, no rushed energy. Ella noted this in her review — “a beautiful space” is what she called it.

Nothing hurts. Lash lifts are completely painless. Unlike waxing, brow shaping, or PMU, there’s no discomfort to hold your attention. Your body has permission to relax completely.

Your lash artist works in silence. Our team is trained to work quietly during the lift — we don’t chat over the top of you. If you want to talk, we’re happy to. If you want to rest, we protect that space.

Between all of these factors, most clients fall into what feels like a proper meditative rest. Some genuinely sleep. And that’s actually part of the value — you leave the appointment not just with beautiful lashes, but with an hour of deep relaxation your calendar probably wasn’t going to give you otherwise.

The “Wow” Moment: What a Lash Lift and Tint Actually Changes

Ella’s phrasing — “wow does it make a difference” — is exactly right. The difference is dramatic, but it’s dramatic in a natural way that flatters rather than transforms.

Here’s what changes when you walk out of a lash lift and tint appointment:

Your lashes are lifted upward instead of pointing straight ahead or downward.  For clients with lashes that grow straight out — or worse, downward toward the cheek — a lift instantly reveals length that was always there but hidden by direction.

Your lashes look longer than they measure. When lashes curl upward, they appear significantly longer than when they’re straight, even though their actual length hasn’t changed. It’s an optical effect that adds real visual length.

Your eyes look brighter and more open. Lifted lashes frame the eye differently — more of the iris shows, the whites of the eyes appear brighter, and the overall expression becomes more awake.

Your lashes look fuller from the tint. The colour darkens each individual lash so they look more defined and denser — the mascara effect, without needing mascara.

Your morning routine gets shorter. Most lash lift and tint clients skip mascara entirely for the 6–8 weeks their lift lasts. Some also skip eyeliner because their lashes now provide the definition eyeliner used to.

You look “put together” without effort. This is the most-mentioned effect in client reviews. People tell you that you look great, but they can’t quite say why. That’s the point.

How a Lash Lift Compares to Extensions

Both are beautiful treatments, but they suit different lifestyles. The very quick comparison:

Lash lift + tint uses your own natural lashes only. Lasts 6–8 weeks. Zero daily maintenance. Painless. Great for swimming, gym, sauna. Around $100–$150 in Perth for the combined treatment. Best for clients with reasonable natural lash length who want a low-maintenance, subtle enhancement.

Lash extensions add length and density with synthetic fibres bonded to your natural lashes. Lasts 2–3 weeks between infills. Requires daily cleansing and careful aftercare. Best for clients wanting dramatic length, density, or a specific style — and who are happy to commit to fortnightly appointments.

Neither is objectively better. Many of our clients rotate between both throughout the year — a lift and tint for holiday and low-maintenance months, extensions for special occasions or when they want more drama.

Who a Lash Lift and Tint Suits Best

A lift and tint is genuinely flattering on almost every eye shape and lash type, but it particularly shines for:

  • Clients with reasonable natural lash length who want their existing lashes showcased
  • Active clients, swimmers, or gym-goers who don’t want the maintenance of extensions
  • First-time lash treatment clients who want to test the enhancement waters before considering extensions
  • Clients with straight or downward-growing lashes — the lift is transformative on these lash types
  • Clients with sensitive eyes who’ve reacted to lash extension adhesive
  • Bridal and event clients wanting a polished but natural look
  • Mature clients for whom extensions might feel too dramatic
  • Contact lens wearers — a lift is much easier to live with than extensions

Clients who might not benefit as much:

  • Very short natural lashes — you need at least 4–5 mm of natural lash length for a lift to have visual impact
  • Very sparse natural lashes — extensions may give a better result
  • Anyone who’s had a lash lift in the last 6 weeks — lashes need time to recover between treatments

Aftercare — How to Make Your Lift Last Longer

Great aftercare stretches your lift from 4 weeks to 6 or 7 weeks — a huge return on 30 seconds a day.

First 24 hours (critical)

Keep your lashes completely dry. No water, no sweat, no tears. No mascara, no eye rubbing, no touching. Sleep on your back if you can.

First 48 hours

No swimming, saunas, or steam rooms. No heavy exercise or hot yoga. No oily eye area products.

Ongoing (weeks 1–8)

Brush your lashes into their lifted shape every morning with a clean spoolie. Apply the nourishing serum we send you home with each night. Avoid oil-based cleansers or eye creams near the lashes. Skip lash growth serums that contain prostaglandin analogues — they interfere with the lift.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a lash lift and tint last?

6 to 8 weeks. Most Perth clients get their next appointment booked around the 6–7 week mark to stay continuously fresh.

Does it hurt?

Not at all. Genuinely painless. Most clients find it relaxing enough to fall asleep — like Ella did.

How long is the appointment?

45 to 60 minutes for a lash lift and tint combined. Slightly shorter without the tint.

Can I wear mascara after a lash lift?

Yes, after 24–48 hours. Only water-based mascara though — waterproof formulas require oil-based removers that dissolve the lift.

Can I swim, exercise, or shower normally with a lash lift?

After the first 48 hours, yes to all of the above. This is one of the biggest advantages a lift has over extensions.

Will a lash lift damage my natural lashes?

Not when done properly by an experienced artist with keratin conditioning included. In fact, the keratin often improves lash health over time.

Can I get a lash lift during pregnancy?

Lash lifts use a different chemical process than lash extensions. While there is no strong evidence that lash lift products are harmful during pregnancy, hormonal changes can make your skin and eyes more sensitive, and results may be less predictable. If you’re considering a lash lift during pregnancy—particularly in the first trimester or if you have any pregnancy complications—it’s best to discuss it with your GP, midwife, or obstetrician before booking your appointment.

How soon can I get another lash lift?

Wait at least 6 weeks between lifts to protect your natural lash health.

Can I have a lash lift if I have lash extensions?

Extensions and lifts don’t combine. If you currently have extensions, they need to be professionally removed first — we can do this at your appointment.

Do I need a patch test?

If you have sensitive eyes, reactive skin, or you’ve reacted to lash treatments before, yes — we offer free patch tests to all new clients with any concern.

Do you offer combination bookings with brow services?

Absolutely. Many clients pair a lash lift and tint with brow lamination, brow tinting, or a facial in one visit. Ask us when you book.

Do you offer free consultations?

Always. Every lash lift client at Posh Deluxe is welcome to a free in-salon consultation before booking.
